Ghillies Report

Every month the Ghillie will report on the previous months fishing. The reports will include the details of the biggest fish caught and on what.

January

January was hard as expected but 2 spring fish were caught. One on the fly and one on the spinner. The fish caught on the fly was a very respectable eight and a half pounds caught by Con O'Dee. The other fish was caught on the last day of January by me and was a very nice 15lbs.

February

February was plagued with extreme weather which resulted in very high waters for the majority of the month. Only 2 spring fish were caught as a result.

March

Early March saw more high waters however conditions improved with water levels dropping to near Summer levels. Catch wise the Grange had a good month with over 30 fish being caught. A number of good sized fish were caught including an 18lb and 17lb fish. The nicest fish for March was taken by John Gordon, a lovely 21lb fish.

April

Water conditions were at Summer level with water temperature high for that time of the year. Fish runs were low. The fish caught were above average weight. In general across the Tay system things have been poor. A very disappointing Spring.

May

Water temperatures were again high and runs of fish poor. Water levels fluctuated. The weather was good but the fine sunny weather kept the fish down leading to a disappointing month.

June

Big waters again - Plenty of fish went through in good condition and decent sizes. The height of the water meant it has been a little trickier to land them.

July

Nice size Grilse and summer salmon in the 10-12lb mark were caught. High waters were again a problem with plenty of fish running right through the beat.

August

Good fishing this month but again high waters have meant that the fishing has been inconsistent. Some good size summer salmon and grisle have been caught in August.
